White squirrel in Brevard and Transylvania County

Brevard’s legendary white squirrels might have earned their own personal festival, but they’re certainly not the only wildlife inhabiting the fields, forests, rivers and streams of Transylvania County. Birdwatchers will relish the opportunity to see all manner of avian life fluttering in the leafy canopy. Majestic hawks, peregrine falcons and golden eagles soar from peak to peak. White-tailed deer and black bears make their homes in the forest floor and numerous varieties of fish swim in our rivers.

Visitors eager to learn more about the wildlife of the region and its habitats are encouraged to stop by the Pisgah Center for Wildlife in the Pisgah National Forests and the adjoining Bobby N. Setzer State Fish Hatchery.
