White squirrels, old time music, vampires & witches. These are just a few of the things Transylvania County likes to celebrate. Everyone likes a good party and you'd be hard pressed to find a place quite as enthusiastic throwing one. Everyone's invited, old, young, and young at heart. RSVP not necessarily required.
The White Squirrel Festival
This annual festival in honor of Transylvania County's furriest oddity draws crowds of nearly thirty thousand per day for great music, good food and yes, a soap box derby. Voted "Best Spring Music Festival in Western North Carolina" by the Asheville Citizen-Times, The White Squirrel Festival promises to go nuts (again) every May.
The Fourth of July
Brevard proves there is more to the fourth than flag-waving and fireworks with an all day Fourth of July Festival that kicks off with a road race and offers a little something for everyone. A community arts and crafts show, a classic car exhibition, a bike parade for children, and enough live music to keep any Yankee Doodle Dandy's toes-a-tappin all day long.
The Mountain Song Festival
The Mountain Song Festival is fast becoming one of the hottest tickets in the Southeast for world-class bluegrass performances. Celebrated national artists share the stage with up and coming talent you'll say you saw when at the Brevard Music Center for two days of unforgettable performances. Current and past performers have included David Grisman, Steve Martin, Del McCoury, Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Tim O'Brien and Doc Watson.
Halloweenfest
If the word "Transylvania" conjures up images of vampires and ghouls and werewolves howling at the full moon in a haunted wood, then Brevard's annual Halloweenfest may very well be your cup of steaming witches' brew. An all day affair, fitted out with fangs, food, fake fur and fairy tale princesses, Halloweenfest might be the scariest fun this side of Dracula's Castle.
The Old Time Music Competition
For fourteen years, Brevard's annual Old Time Music Competition has lured Old Time Musicians from up and down the East Coast to put forth their best effort. All-day performances by the some of the best old-time musicians you've never heard as autumn draws to a close.
Christmas Parade and Twilight Tour
Once a year, for a very special day, downtown Brevard is transformed into a holiday fairyland, lit by luminaries and filled with the sweet sounds of holiday music as performed by some of the area's most cherished musical ensembles. This special day of the Christmas Parade and Twilight Tour begins with an annual 5K and holiday parade, but at 4:00, as the sun begins to set the town is illuminated and filled with song. Carriage rides, cookie sampling and visits to Santa Claus may be anticipated by children of all ages.
Valentine's Day Weekend Getaway
With its magnificent landscapes and intimate downtown, Brevard may be one of the most romantic places you'll ever spend Valentine's Day. With special gallery walks, exhibits, a sweetheart dance and trip down Lover's Lane with hot chocolate in Dupont Forest, the Valentine's Day Weekend Getaway provides you just the right combination to warm your heart and sweeten your Valentine.
